Let's start with the before picture. I know it's blurry but this is from the day of the home inspection and it gives the best overall before vibe. So here we have standard plain oak cabinets with bright brass hardware, a huge brass chandelier over the green laminate counters and the dingy white appliances all against the boring beige walls.
And here's the after...
I couldn't be happier with the results. This kitchen fits our tastes perfectly and seems so much brighter and happier to me.
If you remember we started this makeover last October when replaced the appliances and had the counters installed along with the backsplash.
Since then we've been working on all the diy projects. We painted the walls Sherwin Williams Meander Blue and painted the cabinets in SW Pure White. My husband added the beadboard paneling to the island and the sides of the cabinets. I made the curtains myself from Richloom Lucy Eden fabric and we replaced the lighting and the hardware. We removed the glass shelves from the window, took the wood blinds off the patio doors, and added a chalkboard wall.
I found the hardware online and it was a bit of a splurge but well worth it. I love how the black looks against the white.
We decided to add the chalkboard wall last year and it continues to get lots of compliments from visitors.
The hutch looks so nice now that it's all painted out to compliment the rest of the room.
It took me a long time to find the perfect fabric for the curtains but they were worth the wait. A black and white kitchen can be a little boring or expected but the color and pattern of the curtains give our kitchen a kick of personality.
Here's a list of some of our sources:
appliances GE
lighting rejuvenation.com
stools World Market
hardware myknobs.com
paint Sherwin Williams
tile Home Depot
faucet amazon.com
curtain fabric fabric.com
Here are the links to the posts where some of the projects are outlined:
It took us over a year to get it all done (although it was mostly because I got distracted with other projects) so we are super glad to finally have all the paint cans and tools off the kitchen table. Let me know what you think.

The counters are made of black granite in a honed finish. I really wanted black soapstone but the honed granite was a more affordable alternative.
