Give Thanks Fall Pillow
This is just a quick post before the weekend. My daughter and I are headed to NYC tomorrow to meet my new nephew so I have a lot of packing and getting ready to do.
I made this pillow yesterday as a thank you present for my neighbor and I may or may not have wanted to try out my new Dresden ruler.
It turned out better than I expected and I hope to finish up one for our house soon.
You'll have to excuse the dark photos. I was trying to get in a few quick shots before my daughter ran it next door. She was so excited that I finished it last night she took it over in her pjs. She loves our neighbors and loves giving presents so there was no way I could hold her back until I could get daylight for better pictures.
The Dresden plate fabrics are Autumn Bouquet by Denise Urban which I bought at fatquartershop.com and then the pillow backing is a canvasy-denim-twill material that I bought at Hobby Lobby. It is nice stiff weight for pillows - something that won't wrinkle and can hold up to wear and tear. I used an envelope close for the back so after fall the cover can be put away and the insert used for something else.
I hand-embroidered the center circle using floss I had on hand. It's not perfect but from a distance it looks nice.
I like to make fall decorations that are not specific to either Halloween or Thanksgiving so that they can be left out longer. More bang for my buck so to speak. Although as the kids get older and get more into Halloween I find that we have a fair number of ghosts, spiders and bats hanging around here too.
