First Impressions

I wanted to share the console table that you see when you first come into our front door.  As you open the front door it is straight ahead down the hallway about 20 feet.  I have it spiffed up for fall right now.

Notice the basket on the bottom shelf right hand corner.  I received it as part of a gift or flower delivery type thing years ago.  It kinda just floated around our house from corner to corner until today.  Today I took the saw to the handle...

Here it is before the sawing.  The handle was just so tall and awkward that it just didn't fit anywhere nicely.  I don't know why it took me so long to do it but I just went out to the garage and in less than 2 minutes it was handle free.  Now my basket can fit just about anywhere.  It's such a shame I didn't do it sooner because it is a nice chunky basket.

The books above are special to me because they were my dad's college books.  They are old and yellowing and I just love to use them around the house.

The antique maps are reproductions that my parents gave us and we had framed.  Canandaigua, NY is the small town in the Finger Lakes where my husband and I grew up and where we met.  All of our parents still live there so it is nice to have a little reminder of home on the walls.

Here is the view of the table from the family room.  My husband and I have this ongoing debate on whether or not the pictures are hung too high.  He says I always hang things too low so now we follow a 60 inch on center rule (once I saw Vern Yip say that the center of the picture should be 60 inches from the floor).  Anyways what do you think - too high or just too high because the table is there?

And just because I always want to know where people get their stuff the table is Ethan Allen that we bought years ago but I checked and it is still available.  The buffet lamps are Better Homes & Garden that I bought at Walmart a few years ago for $5 each.  They don't carry this particular buffet lamp anymore but I found a similar one here.  The runner is a piece of burlap that I got at Joann's and the floral is faux also from Joann's.

  3. I think it looks just the right level. My friend always says it should be hung at eye-level. Whose eye though??
Love your blog by the way!
